ISO 45001 revision: what is known, and what is not

ISO/DIS 45001 is Edition 2 of the occupational health and safety management system standard. It is in the enquiry phase: the DIS ballot closed on 9 September 2026 and the committee now decides the next stage. It is not published, it cannot be certified against, and its requirement text is not public. This page separates what the record proves from what is a summary and what is our estimate.

The DIS foreword says this second edition cancels and replaces the first and is technically revised. Its list of main changes is not yet filled in the public sample, so this site does not pretend to have it.

STRUCTURE

The draft clause map

These are the clause titles in the public draft contents. The right-hand columns show where each 2018 requirement goes. A blank in the draft column means the public record does not show a new home for that duty, not that the duty has gone.

WHAT CHANGES

The direction of the revision

Two independent certification-body summaries, DNV and DQS, agree on the direction. The draft adopts the harmonized structure, which reorganizes some clauses without changing the substance; it adds work-related well-being and worker diversity across several clauses; it expands hazard identification for new technology, platform work, remote workers, psychosocial hazards, occupational health hazards and climate change; it adds occupational health and return to work; it consolidates external providers; and it expands Annex A. Both say the draft can still change before publication. Read the detail, with each point attributed.

THE RECORD

The rules this is built from

Nothing here is invented. The 40 requirements that apply today are read from the held ISO 45001:2018 record, each with the evidence an auditor asks for and the ways it commonly fails. The revision layer is read from the public ISO stage record, the public draft contents and two named certification-body summaries. Where the record is silent, the page says so.
